Home Made Door 1

The bathroom door - unpainted.

The bathroom door - unpainted.

Our first hand built door is made from Northwest spruce and pine, and salvaged hardware, including an old pair of metal knobs that we've had bouncing around for years! The mortise lock we scrumped from a salvage store for $3.

We used a simple door framing technique with dowels, a solid wood panel, and hefty, solid wood 2x jambs. Because wood weathers and wears whereas engineered goods fall apart over time, this door is built to last. And the vintage hardware will surely outlast any box-store junk. At some point the door will be primed and painted.

Note: This door was built using a Veritas jack plane, Festool OF-1010 router with the Plexiglas Jig, a Festool T 15+3 drill and brad points, a couple of Narex chisels and a hand made oak mallet.
